You are welcome to use inequalities instead of interval notation. I did want those of you that did not complete Math 1 at a WCPSS school using MVP to have exposure to it. Happy to answer questions after you watch the video.
Interval Notation Video Students and Parents,
Math 2 is a semester long course offered to students who successfully completed Math 1. This course is designed to help students deepen their study of quadratics by comparing their characteristics to those of linear and exponential functions studied in Math 1. Additional methods for solving quadratic equations will be developed and advanced functions (inverse and square root) are investigated. Students expand their study of statistics to include probability and counting methods. They explore complex geometric relationships while moving toward formal mathematical arguments (proofs). It should be noted that important differences exist between Math 2 and the historical approach many parents are familiar with from their Geometry classes. For example, transformations are explored early in the course and provide the framework for studying additional geometric concepts like similarity congruence. The study of similarity leads to an understanding of right triangle trigonometry and connects to quadratics through Pythagorean relationships. The Standards for Mathematical Practice apply throughout each course and, together with the content standards, require that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations. This course fulfills the North Carolina high school graduation requirement for NC Math 2. The final exam is the North Carolina Final Exam for Math 2. I will be sending home a form the first day of school requesting contact information from both students and parents. Please be sure to fill this form out completely (and legibly), as current contact information is a must in keeping the lines of communication between us open. I will send out email updates fairly regularly to keep both parents and students up to date on happenings within the class (especially with regards to unit tests). In addition to the email updates, this website is an excellent tool to use in keeping up with homework assignments and test dates. It is recommended that you check this site daily (evening is best) for additional announcements. If at any time you have any questions or concerns regarding the course, please feel free to email me ([email protected]). I look forward to a positive year for all of us! Best Regards, Morgan Loughridge |
